Tips For Creating Tiny Habits:
1) Make sure you start with a habit you want to instill. Perhaps your habit of presence is to turn off your phone for an hour in the evening to be present with loved ones, or maybe it is to set aside 20 mins a day to follow a guided meditation. Choose something that resonates with you and fits into your lifestyle.
2) Attach this habit to another behaviour. You may want to turn off your phone before your first meal of the day with family, since sitting down for a meal is a habit already. Or you may want to meditate before or after you shower. Having this already established habit attached to your new tiny habit will help to ensure consistency and solidify your new routine.
3) Choose a simple tiny habit to start. This helps to prevent overwhelm, but still gets you moving towards your intention.
4) Celebrate the changes you are making. Give yourself a pat on the back (or even a tiny tangible reward) when you've practiced your tiny habit daily for a week. This helps to anchor the new habit, activating your reward center in your brain and initiating a dopamine release. This cascade of events means you are more likely to carry this habit throughout your year.
